1. Indian Broken Rice Export

Why in news - China is the top buyer of Indian broken rice, which was earlier exported mostly to African countries.

Key Points –

• Out of China’s total rice import from India of 16.34 LMT, nearly 97% or 15.76 LMT was broken rice in FY 2021-22.

• In 2021-22, India’s total rice exports [both basmati (39.48 LMT) and non-basmati (172.62 LMT)] was 212.10 LMT. (19.30% higher than 2020-21).

2. Iraq's Lake Sawa

Why in news - Lake Sawa, located in southern Iraq, has completely dried up.

3. Regular Blood Check up

Why in news – There would be regular check-up for anaemia of women and children in rural Bihar.

• Haemoglobin meter would be used for check-up.

• NFHS-5 (2019-20) (For Bihar)

A. 63.5% women (15-49 years) are anaemic. (NFHS – 4, 2015-16 – 60.3% i.e., 3.2% increase).

B. 65.7% adolescent girls (15-19 years) are anaemic. (NFHS – 4, 2015-16 – 61.0%).

• From April 2021 to March 2022, 35,45,814 children (6-59 months) were given pink tablets (iron folic acid) to prevent blood loss.

4. Upgradation of Road and Bridges

Why in news – The Ministry of Rural Development, GoI has sanctioned an amount of Rs 196.95 crore for the upgradation of 28 roads and bridges in Bihar.

• In this 163.98 km of roads and 1032.74 m bridges are to be constructed in rural areas by March 2023.
