NATIONAL:

1. ‘Odh’ Bags the Best Film Award

Why in news: ‘Odh’ bags the best film award at the ‘75 Creative Minds of Tomorrow’ at 54th IFFI

Key points:

• In Goa, a short film on receding beach lines of Goa, ‘Odh’ has won the best film award at the ‘75 Creative Minds of Tomorrow’ film challenge held at the 54th International Film Festival of India (IFFI).

• The film addresses the issue of receding beach lines of Goa, due to the rise in the sea levels and mass constructions happening on the beaches.

• Union Information and Broadcasting Minister Anurag Singh Thakur had launched the ‘75 Creative Minds of Tomorrow’ film challenge at IFFI in Goa.

• This initiative aims to encourage and nurture young creative talents from various trades of filmmaking.

• The initiative is in its third year, having been launched in 2021 to mark the 75th year of India’s Independence as part of the ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’ celebrations.

2. India, EU Sign MoU

Why in news: India, EU signed MoU to deepen cooperation on semiconductor ecosystem & enhance resilience in semiconductor supply chain

Key points:

• The MoU was signed by Electronics, Information and Technology and Communications Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw and European Commissioner for Internal Markets Thierry Breton during a virtual meeting of India - European Union Trade and Technology Council on Friday.

• The MoU symbolizes the strong commitment between India and EU to work towards building robust semiconductor supply chains and work together on innovation.

3. Central Trade Unions (CTUs)

Why in news: Central Trade Unions (CTUs) urged Government to ratify ILO Conventions on workers’ Health and Safety

Key points:

• CTUs have expressed their concern regarding the workplace safety of workers in the light of recent Silkyara Tunnel collapse in Uttarakhand.

• CTUs are organizations that aim to protect and promote the interests of their members, which are workers or employers.

• Examples: All India Trade Union Congress (AITUC), Indian National Trade Union Congress (INTUC), Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh (BMS), etc.

• In India, workers' safety is covered under the Occupational Safety, Health and Working Conditions Code (OSHWCC) 2020.

Value Addition:

• International Labour Organization (ILO)

• Established: 1919.

• This is the only tripartite U.N. agency, since 1919 the ILO brings together governments, employers and workers

• Members: 187 Members

• Objective: To promote rights at work, encourage decent employment opportunities, enhance social protection and strengthen dialogue on work-related issues.

INTERNATIONAL:

1. North Korea

Why in news: North Korea ripped up five-year-old military pact with South

Key points:

• North Korea has ripped up a five-year-old military pact with South Korea.

• Pyongyang will move more troops and military equipment to the border, and will no longer be bound by the 2018 joint military accord.

• The Comprehensive Military Agreement was signed in Pyongyang in 2018, by the North Korean leader Kim Jong Un and the South Korean President Moon Jae-in.

• Under the pact, both countries agreed to completely cease all hostile acts against each other, by implementing military confidence-building measures in the air, land, and sea domains.

2. World’s Biggest Iceberg

Why in news: The world's biggest iceberg, A23a, is on the move after 30 years

Key points:

• A23a is a massive iceberg that is more than twice the size of Greater London, covering an area of about 4,000 square kilometres.

• The iceberg, formerly part of Antarctica, is finally on the move after being stuck to the ocean floor for more than 30 years.

• There is concern that A23a could disrupt South Georgia Island’s ecology if it gets close to the island.

1. Abhyudaya Bank

Why in news: RBI seized Abhyudaya Bank

Key points:

• The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) superseded the board of Mumbai-based Abhyudaya Cooperative Bank for a year, citing material concerns owing to poor governance standards.

• It appointed former State Bank of India (SBI) executive Satya Prakash Pathak as the administrator to manage the multi-state cooperative bank during this period.

• These actions were done under the Banking Regulation Act, 1949.

1. UN Decade of Healthy Ageing 2021-2030

Why in news: World Health Organization and UN Partners launched the frst Progress Report for 2021-2023 on UN Decade of Healthy Ageing 2021-2030

Key points:

• UNDHA (2021–2030) aims to give everyone the opportunity to add life to years, wherever they live.

• It is a global collaboration that enhances older people’s lives and recognizes fundamental health rights.

• Healthy Ageing is developing and maintaining the functional ability that enables wellbeing in older age.

Findings of Report:

• 87% of countries reported having a policy or strategy for healthy aging in 2022, an increase from 73% in 2020.

• Informal, unpaid carers have insuffcient support.

• Only 16% of low-income countries provide such support.

• Resources for work towards healthy aging remain limited, and more investments are still needed.
