NATIONAL:

1. Personality Rights

Why in news - Delhi High Court allowed Anil Kapoor’s pleas for protection of his personality rights from misuse by 3rd parties.

Key Points –

• Any feature easily identified by the public as marker of a celebrity’s personality and is referred loosely as “personality rights.” E.g., Anil Kapoor’s Jhakaas.

• Personality rights include name, voice, signature, images, pose, mannerisms or any aspect of their personality.

• Only the owner or creator of these distinct features has the right to derive any commercial benefit from it.

• Personality rights or their protection are not expressly mentioned in a statute in India.

• They are traced to fall under the right to privacy and the right to property.

2. Samvidhan Sadan

Why in news – PM Narendra Modi renamed the old Parliament building 'Samvidhan Sadan'

Key Points –

• The Centre will modify the Samvidhan Sadan for 'functional spaces for Parliamentary events'.

• From September 19, the ongoing special House session moved to the new Parliament building.

• The old Parliament will be turned into a museum.

• It was constructed between 1921 and 1927.

Value Addition –

• It was designed by British architects Edwin Lutyens and Herbert Baker.

• Its role –

(a) It housed the Imperial Legislative Council (From January 18, 1927 to August 15, 1947).

(b) After Independence, it served as the Constituent Assembly of India.

(c) After the adoption of the Constitution it served as the Parliament of India.

• The circular, 164-pillared Parliament building was inspired by the Chausath Yogini temple in Mitaoli (Morena, Madhya Pradesh).

About Chausath Yogini Temple -

• The temple was built around 1323 by King Devapala of the Kachchhapaghata dynasty.

• The central shrine dedicated to Shiva.

• It is hypaethral, which means it has no roof (no shikhara)

INTERNATIONAL:

1. Sultan Al Neyadi

Why in news – UAE astronaut Sultan Al Neyadi returned after a 6-month mission aboard the International Space Station (ISS).

Key Points –

• Al Neyadi's mission of 186 days (4,400 hours) aboard the ISS was the longest by an Arab astronaut.

• He became the first Arab astronaut to perform a spacewalk.

• He returned to Earth on September 4 in a SpaceX Dragon capsule.

• He had celebrated International Yoga Day on the ISS by performing a lotus pose (Padmasana).

2. 35th Gandhi Walk

Why in news – The 35th edition of the annual Gandhi Walk took place in Johannesburg, South Africa.

Key Points –

• It is a fun six-kilometer walk.

• This walk started as a small fundraiser to complete the Gandhi Hall in Lenasia.

GOVERNMENT SCHEMES:

1. ‘Skills on Wheels’ Initiative

Why in news – Dharmendra Pradhan launched the ‘Skills on Wheels’ initiative.

Key Points –

• By - Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship.

• Benefit – Providing relevant skills training to 60,000 youth over 5 years to improve livelihood of rural households.

• A customized bus with retrofitted tools, Skills On Wheels will take the Skill India Mission to the remotest corners of India.

• Other partners - National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) and IndusInd Bank.

AWARDS & HONOURS:

1. UNESCO World Heritage Sites

Why in news – The Hoysala Temples in Karnataka were officially confirmed as India’s 42nd World Heritage Site.

Key Points –

• It consists of 3 temples from the 12-13th century CE of the Hoysala dynasty –

(a) Chennakeshava temple (Belur)

(b) Hoysaleshwara temple (Halebidu)

(c) Keshava temple (Somnathpur)

• The Hoysala temples follow a stellate plan built on a raised platform.

Value Addition -

• The 45th session of the World Heritage Committee in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

• The other heritage sites in Karnataka which got into the UNESCO list are Hampi (1986) and Pattadakal (1987).

SECURITY:

1. 'Vibhav' Anti-Tank Mines

Why in news – 600 indigenous and self-neutralizing anti-tank mines, “Vibhav”, have been inducted into the Army.

Key Points –

• They are designed to provide mobility kill against all enemy armoured vehicles.

• “Vibhav” is a point-attack anti-tank munition.

IMPORTANT DAYS:

1. International Red Panda Day

Why in news – It is observed on 3rd Saturday of every September (2023 - September 16).

Key Points –

• IUCN – Endangered.

• It was established by the Red Panda Network in 2010.

• They were found in the southwest region of China and the eastern Himalayas.

Value Addition –

• In India, they are found in –

(a) States - Sikkim, Arunachal Pradesh, Darjeeling, and Kalimpong districts of West Bengal.

(b) National Park –

i. Namdapha National Park (Arunachal Pradesh),

ii. Nokrek National Park (Meghalaya, West Garo Hills)

iii. Balphakram National Park (Meghalaya, south of Garo Hills)

iv. Khangchendzonga National Park (Sikkim)

v. Neora Valley National Park (Kalimpong, West Bengal)

vi. Singalila National Park (Darjeeling, West Bengal).

1. BSEB Reconstituted

Why in news – The education department reconstituted the Bihar School Examination Board for a period of 3 years with effect from September 25.

Key Points –

• Anand Kishor has been reappointed its chairman.

• Prominent nominated members –

(a) Shashi Pratap Shahi (Magadh Universiy VC)

(b) Faizan Mustafa (Chanakya National Law University’s VC).

2. Dengue Cases

Why in news – All four strains of dengue virus have been found in Bihar in equal numbers, according to experts.

Key Points –

• The strains, DENV-1, DENV-2, DENV-3, and DENV-4, have similar symptoms and treatment.

• However, DENV-2 is the most severe, causing intense pain, shock syndrome, and bleeding. While DENV-3 appears to be slightly dominant.

• In Bihar, a serology test is done at Indira Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences (IGIMS) here to know the strain.
