Why in news - Hyderabadi Haleem has won the ‘Most Popular GI’ award beating other food items including Rasgulla etc.

Key Points –

• It is selected by Ministry of Commerce and industry based on public voting.

• For the first time, GI status was accorded to Hyderabadi Haleem in 2010.

• Other GI tag items from Telangana - Nirmal toys and crafts, Nirmal furniture, Nirmal Paintings, Gadwal sari and Banaganapalle Mangoes.

2. Asia's Largest CBG Plant

Why in news - Hardeep Singh Puri inaugurated Asia's largest Compressed Bio Gas (CBG) plant in Punjab's Sangrur.

• It has been commissioned with an FDI of approax Rs. 220 crores.

• Set up by Verbio AG, Germany's bio-energy company.

Why in news - Mallikarjun Kharge elected as Congress president defeating Shashi Tharoor.

Key Points –

• He got 7,897 votes (84.14%) against Shashi Tharoor’s 1,072 votes (11.42%).

• He became the first non-Gandhi Congress president in 24 years (Previous - Sitaram Kesri).

Key Points –

• She served for 45-days, the shortest in Britain's history.

2. India-Russia Trade

Why in news - India’s bilateral trade with Russia reached an all-time high of $18,229.03 million in just 5 months of 2022-23.

Key Points –

• Russia’s share in India’s total trade has increased to 3.54%. (1.27% in 2021-22).

• Reasons - Imports surge in oil and fertilisers. Both together account for over 91% of the total imports from Russia this year.

• Russia has now become India’s 7th biggest trading partner (25th in 2021).

• India’s top trading partners (in 5 months) - USA>China>UAE>Saudi Arabia>Iraq.

Why in news - Madhya Pradesh Wildlife Board approved a new reserve for tigers of Panna Tiger Reserve (PTR).

• National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA) will give the final approval.

• Durgavati Wildlife Sanctuary is a green corridor for Bandhavgarh Tiger Reserve.

• In 2020, UNESCO included PTR in a global network of biospheres because of its unique landscape and management.
