Why in news - The iconic Rajpath from Rashtrapati Bhavan to India Gate to be renamed as Kartavya Path (Path of Duty).

Why in news - Liz Truss was named leader of the Conservative Party and Britain’s next Prime Minister on Sept 5, 2022.

Key Points –

• Liz Truss (81,326 votes) defeated Rishi Sunak (60,399 votes).

• Truss is the 3rd female PM in Britain after Margaret Thatcher and Theresa May.

1. Inflatable Aerodynamic Decelerator (IAD)

Why in news - ISRO has successfully tested the IAD technology to safely land payloads on other planets.

Key Points –

• IAD is designed and developed by ISRO's Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre (VSSC) Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala.

• It was successfully test flown in Rohini-300 (RH300 Mk II) sounding rocket from Thumba.

• Applications –

A. Recovery of spent stages of rocket,

B. Landing payloads onto Mars or Venus

C. Making space habitat for human space flight missions.

Why in news - Commander Sureshwar Dhari Sinha, an Indian Navy veteran and environmentalist passed away.

• He was called the grand old river warrior who fought for the revival of the Yamuna River.

• He formed an NGO called Paani Morcha, through which he continued to fight for water resources and environmental resources.

• He was the Commanding Officer of INS Kadmatt, an anti-submarine ship.

Why in news - Eminent history professor Dr B Sheikh Ali passed away.

Key Points –

• A major share of Dr. Ali’s research work is related to Hyder Ali and Tipu Sultan.

• He is a recipient of the Rajyothsava award and the founder of the South India History Congress in 1985.

1. National Games 2022

Why in news - Amit Shah unveiled the anthem and mascot for the 36th National Games.

• Mascot – Saavaj (means lion).

• A team of women from Jeevika is taking training in Uttar Pradesh in making glass bangles.

Why in news – Renowned ophthalmologist, Dr. Raj Vardhan Azad, has been elected president of the World ROP Council.

• The new council was formed at the 5th World ROP (retinopathy of prematurity) Congress held at Dubai from September 1 to 4.

3. Jyotirlinga Darshan Train

Why in news – For the first time, the Swadesh Darshan tourist train will be dispatched from Bihar.

Key Points –

• It will start from Darbhanga on October 10 and stop at Muzaffarpur and Patliputra Junction to pick up the pilgrims.

• The train will return to Darbhanga on October 20 after visiting Mahakaleshwar and Omkareshwar Jyotirlinga, Shri Nageshwar Jyotirlinga and Shri Dwarkadhish Temple, Somnath Jyotirling, Shirdi, Shri Trimbakeshwar and Shan Jyotgnairling.
