1. Lumpy Skin Disease (LSD)
Why in news - The outbreak of lumpy skin disease in Rajasthan has resulted in the death of more than 1,200 bovines.
Key Points –
About LSD –
• It is caused by poxvirus Lumpy Skin Disease Virus (LSDV).
• It was first seen as an epidemic in Zambia in 1929.
• It was first reported in Asia and the Pacific region in 2019.
• Symptoms - Fever, fluid excretion from eyes and nose, dribbling of saliva and blisters on the body.
• Cattles are vaccinated against LSD under the Livestock Health and Disease Control Programme of India.
2. Annual Review of State Laws 2021
