1. Statue of Alluri Sitarama Raju

Why in news – PM Narendra Modi unveiled the 30-feet tall bronze statue of Alluri Sitarama Raju on his 125th birth anniversary in Andhra Pradesh’s Bhimavaram.

Key points –

About Alluri Sitarama Raju –

• Birth - July 4, 1897 at Pandrangi in Vizianagaram district.

• He led the Rampa rebellion in 1922 against the British in the Eastern Ghats region.

• He is referred to as ‘Manyam Veerudu’ (Hero of the Jungles).

1. Banks Board Bureau (BBB)

Why in news – The government has transformed Banks Board Bureau (BBB) into Financial Services Institutions Bureau (FSIB). It was proposed by the Department of Financial Service, Ministry of Finance.

About BBB –

• BBB was recommended by ‘The Committee to Review Governance of Boards of Banks in India, May 2014 (Chairman - P. J. Nayak)’.

• The government approved the constitution of BBB in 2016.

• It makes recommendations for the appointment of whole-time directors as well as non-executive chairpersons of Public Sector Banks (PSBs) and state-owned financial institutions.

1. Space Sustainability Summit

Why in news - On June 23, the U.K. hosted the 4th summit for Space Sustainability in London in collaboration with the Secure World Foundation.

Key points –

• The UK announced a new ‘Plan for Space Sustainability.’

• The UN Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space (COPUOS) in 2019 adopted a set of 21 voluntary guidelines to ensure the long-¬term sustainability of outer space activities.

• The UK’s Astro Carta calls for the need for addressing the principles and rules that guide the activities of entities in outer space.

• The ISRO has initiated ‘Project NETRA’ to monitor space debris.

2. Suraksha Manthan-2022

Why in news - The Indian Army (Desert Corps) organized the ‘Suraksha Manthan 2022’ on aspects of Border & Coastal Security at Jodhpur (Rajasthan).

2. Smart helmet with three rule traffic system

Why in news – Raja Kumar Keshari of Bihar Bal Bhavan Kilkari has developed a unique Smart helmet with three rule traffic system.

3. Construction 10 state highways (SHs)

Why in news – The Screening committee headed by the Development Commissioner has approved the formation of 10 SHs covering 500 km.

• To be constructed by Bihar State Road Development Corporation with loan from Asian Development Bank (ADB).

• 13 districts would be directly benefited - Supaul, Chhapra, Siwan, Buxar, Nawada, Gaya, Bhojpur, Madhubani, Sitamarhi, Banka, Bhagalpur, Muzaffarpur and Darbhanga.

4. Diversion Canal

Why in news – The government has planned to send the river waters to urban areas through a diversion canal to reduce the intensity and impact of floods.

Key points -

• 23 rivers of South Bihar are still dry while all the major rivers of North Bihar have crossed the danger mark.

• In Bihar, 68.80 lakh hectares of land is flood-prone. (44.46 lakh hectare - North Bihar, 24.34 lakh hectare - South Bihar).

• Other benefits - Less pressure on embankments, irrigation facilities to farmers.

Why in news - Former minister in Bihar government Narendra Singh has died.
