1. Integrated Transit Corridor (ITC)

Why in news – PM Modi inaugurated the main tunnel and 5 underpasses of the Pragati Maidan ITC Project in New Delhi on June 19, 2022.

Key Points –

• Tunnel length - 1.3-km.

• Work started in 2017.

• Project cost of - ₹920 crore.

• The tunnel runs from the National Sports Complex of India to the Ring Road near the Pragati Power station.

2. Hanle Dark Sky Reserve (HDSR)

Why in news – A tripartite MoU was signed to set up India’s first dark sky reserve at Hanley in Ladakh.

Key Points –

• It was signed between the UT administration, LAHDC Leh and Indian Institute of Astrophysics (IIA) Bengaluru.

• Situated in Changthang Wildlife Sanctuary at Hanle, Ladakh.

• HDSR would span in 22 km in radius centered around the Hanle observatory.

3. ‘Balika Panchayat’

Why in news – India’s first-ever ‘Balika Panchayat’ was started in several villages of Kutch district in Gujarat.

Key Points –

• Initiative of the Women and Child Development Welfare department of the Gujarat Government.

• It started in Kunaria, Maska, Motagua, and Vadsar villages.

• It is managed by girls aged 11-21 years.

• Sarpanch of Balika Panchayat - Urmi Ahir.

1. Padma Bridge

Why in news – Bangladesh rejected reports over links between a newly-built Padma bridge and China's BRI saying it was entirely financed by the government.

1. WTO Ministerial Conference

Why in news – The WTO’s 12th Ministerial Conference (MC12) was held in Geneva from June 12-17, 2022.

Key Points –

Imp decisions (Geneva Package) -

• To curb ‘harmful’ subsidies on illegal, unreported and unregulated fishing for the next 4 years. It is the 2nd multilateral agreement in WTO’s history. (1st - environmental sustainability).

• To exempt food purchased by the UN WFP for humanitarian purposes from any export restrictions.

• To temporarily waive intellectual property patents on Covid-19 vaccines without the consent of the patent holder for 5 years.

• (MC12) was scheduled to take place in June 2020 in Nur-Sultan, Kazakhstan.

About WTO-

• Set up in 1995. Replaced the GATT under the Marrakesh Agreement (15 April 1994).

• Marrakesh Agreement culminated of the 8-year-long Uruguay round.

• Only global organization dealing with the international trade between nations.

• HQ - Geneva, Switzerland. Director-General - Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala.

• Principles - Non-Discrimination, Most Favored Nation (MFN), National Treatment.

1. IPL Broadcasting Rights

Why in news - BCCI had floated a tender for awarding the media rights for IPL’s broadcast from 2023 to 2027.

Key Points –

• Television and digital platforms rights were sold for a combined sum of ₹48,390 crore.

• Disney Star paid ₹23,575 crores for television rights for the Indian sub¬continent.

• Viacom 18 group paid ₹23,758 crore for digital rights.

• The rest of the world rights were split between Viacom 18 and Times Internet Ltd. for a combined sum of ₹1,057 crores

• IPL would witness 410 games from 2023 to 2027.

2. FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup

Why in news - FIFA has announced the schedule of Under-17 Women's World Cup-2022.
