1. ‘Bharat Gaurav’ Train

Why in news - Indian Railways launched the first train under its ‘Bharat Gaurav’ scheme on June 14, 2022.

Key Points –

• Flagged off from Coimbatore (TN) to Sainagar Shirdi (MH). (Southern Railway).

• This particular train is being operated by private operator South Star Rail.

• They are theme-based tourist circuit trains to showcase India’s rich cultural heritage.

2. India’s First Display Fab

Why in news - Telangana has signed an MoU with Elest to setup fabrication unit to manufacture next-generation displays for smartphones, tablet computers, and laptops.

Key Points –

• Elest is a subsidiary of Rajesh Exports.

• Investments - Rs 24,000 crore.

• It would be set up under the India Semiconductor Mission (MeITY).

3. Sant Tukaram Temple

Why in news – PM Modi inaugurated the Sant Tukaram Shila Mandir in Dehu, Pune district.

Key Points –

• Saint Tukaram was a Warkari saint and poet in the 17th-century. (contemporary of Shivaji).

• His followers belong to the Warkari sect.

• He made the Vithoba cult popular.

• He composed devotional songs on Vithalswamy called as Abhangs.

• His master was Saint Chaitanya Mahaprabhu.

4. Startup Accelerator Program

Why in news – Google announced ‘Google for Startups Accelerator India – Women Founders’ program on June 14, 2022.

Key Points –

• To help them in fundraising and hiring.

• Would run from Jul-2022 to Sep-2022.

• The inaugural batch would accept up to 20 women-founded / co-founded startups in the country.

INTERNATIONAL:

1. UAE suspended re-exports of Indian Wheat

Why in news - The United Arab Emirates has ordered a 4-month suspension in exports and re-exports of wheat and wheat flour originating from India.

Key Points –

• India banned wheat exports on May 14.

• India is the world’s second-biggest producer of wheat after China.

1. StartUps for Railways’ Policy

Why in news - Ashwini Vaishnaw has launched ‘StartUps for Railways’ on June 13, 2022 to encourage start-ups in railways sector.

Key Points –

• It aims to spend Rs 1.5 crore of seed money for innovative technological solutions.

• Funding mechanism - 50:50 (Indian Railways: innovator). i.e., 50% capital grant.

1. Digital News Report 2022

Why in news - Digital News Report 2022 was recently released by Reuters Institute for the Study of Journalism.

Key Points –

• The survey was conducted by YouGuv.

• It covers 46 markets on 6 continents.

• Facebook is the most-used social network for news.

• Globally, TikTok became the fastest-growing network with 15% using the platform for news.

• News avoidance has doubled in Brazil (54%) and the U.K. (46%) since 2017.
India specific findings –

• It was produced with the help of Asian College of Journalism.

• 72% accessed news through smartphones and 35% via computers.

• Source of news – online (84%), social media (63%), Television (59%), Print (49%).

• Top social media source - YouTube (53%), WhatsApp (51%).

• India registered a small increase in the level of trust (41%). (Globally reduced - 42%).

2. Global Startup Ecosystem Report (GSER)

Why in news - The GSER was released on June 14, 2022.

Key Points –

• Kerala has been ranked first in Asia in Affordable Talent and 4th in global ranking in the GSER.

• Bengaluru moved to the 22nd position.

• The report was prepared by Startup Genome and Global Entrepreneurship Network.

• In the first GSER published (2020), Kerala was ranked 5th in Asia and 20th in the world.

Why in news - Fintech startup XPay.Life launched its UPI services targeted at rural India.

• It claims to be India’s first blockchain-enabled transaction framework.

Why in news - Neeraj Chopra broke own national record with 89.30m Javelin throw.
