NATIONAL:

1. Buddha Relics to Mongolia

Why in news – 4 holy relics of Lord Buddha were taken to Mongolia for an 11-day exposition.

Key Points –

• The 25-member delegation was led by Kiren Rijiju.

• To be displayed at the Batsagaan Temple in Gandan Monastery complex in Ulaanbaatar.

• They are known as the ‘Kapilvastu Relics’.

• In 2015, the Holy Relics were placed under the ‘AA’ category of Antiquities and Art Treasures which should not be ordinarily taken out of the country for exhibition.

• Saririka stupas - Stupas erected over the bodily relics of Buddha.

2. Dharohar Museum

Why in news – Nirmala Sitharaman inaugurated Dharohar - the National Museum of Customs and GST in Panaji Goa on June 11, 2022.

Key Points –

• Dharohar’ has eight galleries.

• ‘Blue building’ (earlier known as Alfandega) is located on the banks of the Mandovi river in Panaji.

INTERNATIONAL:

1. UNSC as non-permanent members

Why in news – 5 countries were elected to the UNSC as non-permanent members for the 2023-2024 term. (held elections on June 9, 2022).

Key Points –

• They are - Ecuador, Japan, Malta, Mozambique and Switzerland.

• They would replace India, Ireland, Kenya, Mexico and Norway from January 1, 2023.

• India’s two-year term at the UNSC as non-permanent member would end in December 2022.

2. Ramsay Hunt Syndrome

Why in news – Justin Bieber has revealed he has been diagnosed with a rare condition called Ramsay Hunt Syndrome.

Key Points –

• It is neurological disease caused by Varicella Zoster virus (VZV) which causes inflammation of the nerves involved in facial movements.

• There are 12 cranial nerves in the body. It impacts the 7th cranial nerve.

• VZV also causes chickenpox and shingles.

3. Iran and Venezuela Cooperation

Why in news – Iran and Venezuela signed a 20-year cooperation plan in Tehran on June 11, 2022.

Key Points –

• Iran signed a 25-year cooperation accord with China in 2021.

• It is also negotiating the renewal of a 20-year cooperation accord with Russia.

• Iranian President - Ebrahim Raisi.

• Venezuelan President - Nicolas Maduro.

4. World’s 2nd Longest Reigning Monarch

Why in news – Britain's Queen Elizabeth II became the world’s 2nd longest reigning (70 years) monarch.

Key Points –

• She was crowned in 1953.

• She has overtaken Thailand's King Bhumibol Adulyadej.

• Longest-reigning monarch - 72-year and 110-days.

Why in news – Canada is poised to become the 1st country in the world to print health warning on every cigarette.

1. Sagarmala Young Professional Scheme

Why in news – Ministry of Ports launched the scheme.

Key Points –

• To engage talented, dynamic and forward-thinking young professionals in different divisions of the ministry.

• Under it, over 25 young professionals (B. E or B. Tech, B. Planning or MBA) would be hired.

• Initially, they would be engaged for 2 years (extension - 2 years).

Why in news – It is observed every year on June 12.

Key Points –

• Theme 2022 - 'Universal Social Protection to End Child Labour'.

• It was started by the International Labour Organization (ILO) in 2002.

• According to a report, around 160 million children worldwide are engaged in child labour.

1. Indian Space Promotion and Authorisation Centre (IN-SPACE)

Why in news – PM Modi inaugurated the headquarters of IN-SPACe in Ahmedabad on June 10, 2022.

Why in news – N J Ojha appointed has been appointed as MGNREGA ombudsman (Lokpal).

Key Points –

About MGNREGA –

• Nodal agency - Ministry of Rural Development.

• It was introduced as the National Rural Employment Guarantee Act 2005.

• In 2010, the name of NREGA was changed to MGNREGA.

• Features - 100 days of employment during an FY, unskilled manual labour, at least 1/3rd women beneficiaries, guarantee to provide employment within 15 days (if not, unemployment allowance), work available within the periphery of 5 km, no contractor and machines are allowed.
