1. NHAI’s World Record

Why in news - The National Highway Authority of India has entered the Guinness World Records.

Key Points –

• For the longest continuously laid bituminous lane of 75 km in 105 hours and 33 minutes.

• Between Amravati and Akola districts in Maharashtra.

• The work started at 7.27 AM on June 3 and was completed at 5 PM on June 7.

• Previous record - 25.275 km road in Doha, Qatar (completed in 10 days).

2. Govt Hikes MSP

Why in news - The government announced minimum support prices (MSP) for all mandated Kharif crops for marketing season 2022-23 on June 8, 2022.

Key Points –

• Paddy (common) (5.15% hike) - Rs 2,040 per quintal for 2022-23. (2021-22 - Rs 1,940).

• Soyabean (yellow) (maximum hike : 8.86%) - Rs 4,300 per quintal for 2022-23. (2021-22 - 3,950 per quintal).

INTERNATIONAL:

1. India, Vietnam Inked Military Pact

Why in news - India and Vietnam signed an MoU on mutual logistics support that allows the militaries of the two sides to use each other's bases for repair and replenishment of supplies.

Key Points –

• Both signed a joint vision statement on ‘India-Vietnam Defence Partnership towards 2030’.

• Both agreed for $500 million ‘Defence Line of Credit’ extended to Vietnam.

• India and Vietnam became 'strategic partners' in July 2007.

• In 2016, it became a 'comprehensive strategic partnership'.

• In the South China Sea, Paracel Islands and the Spratly Islands are claimed by both China and Vietnam.

2. ‘Most detailed’ map of Moon

Why in news - China has released a new comprehensive geologic map of the Moon, the ‘most detailed’ to date.

Key Points –

• Data taken from China's lunar exploration Chang'e project.

• It has12,341 impact craters, 81 impact basins, 17 rock types and 14 types of structures.

• To a scale of 1:2,500,000.

1. National Air Sports Policy 2022

Why in news - Minister of Civil Aviation Jyotiraditya M. Scindia launched the country’s first national air sports policy (NASP 2022) on June 7, 2022.

Key Points –

• Aim - To include India among the leading air sports countries by the year 2030.

• 11 air sports would be promoted.

• Apex governing body - Air Sports Federation of India (ASFI).

ECONOMY:

1. RBI Monetary Policy

Why in news - Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) voted unanimously June8 , 2022 to raise repo rate by 50 basis points to 4.90%.

Key Points –

• The new rates are –

A. Repo Rate: 4.90%

B. Standing Deposit Facility (SDF): 4.65%

C. Marginal Standing Facility Rate: 5.15%

D. Bank Rate: 5.15%

E. Fixed Reverse Repo Rate: 3.35%

F. CRR: 4.50%

G. SLR: 18.00%

• MPC members - Shri Shaktikanta Das (chairman), Dr. Shashanka Bhide, Dr. Ashima Goyal, Prof. Jayanth R. Varma, Dr. Rajiv Ranjan and Dr. Michael Debabrata Patra.

• RBI revised inflation projection for FY23 to 6.7 % from 5.7% earlier.

• Real GDP forecast for FY23 retained at 7.2%.

• E-mandate on cards for recurring payments limit raised from Rs 5,000 to Rs 15,000.

• As of June 3, 2022, India's foreign exchange reserves stood at $601.1 billion.

1. RIMPAC Naval War Games

Why in news – India has decided to participate in the world’s biggest maritime exercise 'Rim of the Pacific' or RIMPAC to be hosted by the US.

Key Points –

• 28th edition of RIMPAC would be held from June 29 to August 4, 2022.

• 26 countries would participate.

• Venue - Honolulu and San Diego in the Pacific Ocean.

• India first participated (INS Sahyadri) in RIMPAC in 2014.

ENVIRONMENT:

1. Asia’s largest 20 MWp solar plant

Why in news – Maruti Suzuki sets up Asia’s largest 20 MegaWatt Peak (MWp) carport type solar plant at Manesar, Haryana.

• It would provide 28,000 MWh of electricity per year to the organisation.

• It has launched a 5 MW solar carport at its Gurugram site in 2020.

2. NIT Bihta Campus

Why in news – The new campus would be ready by March-April 2024.

• Ahluwalia Contracts India Limited (ACIL) has been selected for construction work.

• It would be constructed on ‘turnkey basis’ in Engineering Procurement Commissioning (EPC) mode.

• ACIL would implement new technology through Building Information Modeling (BIM).

• The government has provided 125 acres for the campus. (Rs 499.21 crore approved).

3. CM Rural Solar Street Light Scheme

Why in news – BREDA has selected 13 agencies to install solar street lights in villages.

• The process of selection was done through lottery system.

• Under this, 1,10,000 wards would be illuminated.

• 10 street lights would be installed in each ward.
