Why in news – PM Modi launched Global initiative LiFE movement asking for collective efforts to further sustainable development.

1. ‘Lipstick’ plant rediscovered

Why in news – The ‘Indian Lipstick plant’ has been rediscovered in Anjaw district of Arunachal Pradesh after over 100 years.

• Rediscovered by the Botanical Survey of India (BSI).

• First identified in the year 1912 by Stephen Troyte Dunn.

• Scientific name - 'Aeschynanthus monetaria dunn'.

• IUCN - ‘endangered’ category.

Why in news - The Defence Acquisition Council (DAC) accorded preliminary approval for capital acquisition of the armed forces amounting to ₹76,390 crores.

2. Agni-4 Missile

Why in news - India successfully tested the Intermediate-Range Ballistic Missile (IRBM) Agni¬4 on June 7, 2022.

Key Points –

• Location - APJ Abdul Kalam Island, Odisha.

• Range - over 3,500 km.

• Other Ranges of Agni Missiles

A. Agni I: 700-800 km.
B. Agni II: > 2000 km.
C. Agni III: > 2,500 Km
D. Agni-V: > 5,000 km (The longest of the Agni series, ICBM).

• The 5 missiles (P-A-T-N-A) developed under IGMDP are – Prithvi, Agni, Trishul, Nag and Akash.

SPORTS:

1. FIH Hockey 5s Championship

Why in news - On June 5, 2022, the Indian men's hockey team has won the FIH Hockey 5s Championship title for the first time.

Key Points –

• Beat Poland by 6-4.

• Venue - Lausanne, Switzerland.

• India had topped the chart with three wins and one draw.

• First FIH Hockey 5s was held at the 2014 Nanjing Youth Olympic Games in China.

2. Bolat Turlykhanov Cup 2022

Why in news – The Bolat Turlykhanov Cup is a wrestling event that was held in Almaty, Kazakhstan between 2 and 5 June 2022.

• Sakshi Malik, Mansi and Divya Kakran won gold in the event.

• Sakshi Malik won her first international gold medal in the Bolat Turlykhanov Cup.

• Sakshi Malik (62 kg) won against Irina Kuznetsova (Kazakhstan).

Why in news – Tamil Nadu CM MK Stalin flagged off the luxury cruise liner ‘Empress’ from Chennai port.

BIHAR:

1. 15% hike in minimum wages

Why in news - From October 2022, the minimum wages of all unorganized unskilled, semi-skilled, skilled and super-skilled workers to be increased by 15%.

Key Points –

• The minimum wage would to Rs 366 per day (Rs 11000 pm).

• Workers working in 88 types of employments would get the benefit.
