Why in news – Tata Projects won bid to construct the Noida International Airport at Jewar in Uttar Pradesh.

Key Points –

• The airport is expected to be functional by 2024.

• Earlier, Tata Projects won tenders of the new Parliament building, Mumbai Trans-Harbour Link and Metro rail lines across various cities.

2. Liquid-mirror Telescope

Why in news – The International Liquid-Mirror Telescope (ILMT) has been set up at the Devasthal observatory campus in Uttarakhand.

Key Points –

• It became the world’s first liquid-mirror telescope to be commissioned for astronomy.

• Located at 2,450 meters above mean sea level.

• It is the largest in Asia.

Why in news – EAM S. Jaishankar participated in GLOBSEC 2022 in Slovakia.

Key Points –

• He was on an official visit to Slovakia and the Czech Republic.

• The Czech Republic woud take over the EU Presidency from July 1.

2. 2021 Report on International Religious Freedom

Why in news – It flags ‘cow vigilantism in India, attacks on Kashmir Hindus & Sikhs’.

Key Points –

• Released by US State Department.

• US Ambassador-at-Large for International Religious Freedom - Rashad Hussain.

• It stated that 10 of 28 states in India have laws restricting religious conversion.

1. New spacecraft manufacturing unit

Why in news – Dr. S Somanath (chairman of ISRO) inaugurated ANANTH Technologies’ spacecraft manufacturing unit in Bengaluru.

Key Points –

• It is India's largest private spacecraft manufacturing facility.

• ANANTH has manufactured 89 satellites and 69 launch vehicles built/launched by ISRO since its establishment in 1992.

1. Posidonia Australis

Why in news – The world's largest living plant (Posidonia australis) has been identified in Australia.

Key Points –

• Location - Shallow waters of the Shark Bay in Western Australia.

• It is a seagrass that stretches across 180 km and 4,500 years old.

1. Anjalai Ponnusamy

Why in news – Freedom fighter and veteran of Indian National Army (INA) Anjalai Ponnusamy died.

Key Points –

• She had died at the age of 102 at Sentul in Malaysia.

• She had joined the Rani of Jhansi Regiment at a young age of 21.

2. Bhajan Sopori

Why in news – Santoor maestro Bhajan Sopori passed away on June 2, 2022.

Key Points –

• He belonged to the Sufiana Gharana of Indian classical music.

• He hailed as ‘Saint of the Santoor’ and the ‘King of Strings’.

• He won the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award (1992), the Padma Shri (2004), the Baba Allaudin Khan Award (2009) and M N Mathur award (2011).

1. UP Investors Summit

Why in news – PM Modi marked the ground-breaking ceremony of the UP Investors Summit in Lucknow on June 3, 2022.

Key Points –

• PM Modi laid the foundation for 1,406 projects worth Rs 80,000 crore.

• Gautam Adani would make investments worth Rs 70,000 crore in UP in long run. Rs 35,000 crore - multi-modal logistics, Rs 24,000 crore - infrastructure and South Asia’s largest ammunition complex in Kanpur.

BIHAR:

1. Bihar’s history as per Hiuen Tsang

Why in news – Bihar Heritage Development Committee has signed an MoU with Cardiff University for 3 years to throw light on heritage and archaeology.

Key Points –

• Sites have been identified in Patna, Jehanabad, Gaya, Nawada and Nalanda regions for research.

• An Stupa has been found at Dungeshwari hills of Gaya and sculptures at Dharaut (Jahanbad).

• The Chinese traveler Hiuen Tsang came to India between 630 and 642 AD and spent a large part of his travels in Bihar.

2. Commando training for Bihar Policemen

Why in news – The training center of the Special Task Force (STF) has been completed in Bodh Gaya.

Key Points –

• 200 jawans can be trained in one go.

• The construction was started in 2015.

• STF in Bihar Police was formed in the year 2000.

3. MPs from Bihar in Rajya Sabha

Why in news – On June3, 2022, five members were declared elected unopposed to the Rajya Sabha from Bihar.

Key Points –

• They are - Satish Chandra Dubey (BJP), Shambhu Sharan Patel (BJP), Misa Bharti (RJD), Fayaz Ahmed (RJD) and Khiru Mahto (JDU).

• Satish Chandra Dubey and Misa Bharti were elected for 2nd time in a row.

4. Mango Production in Bihar

Why in news – Despite large-scale production of mango, there is no mango processing unit in Bihar that can be mentioned.

Key Points –

• Mango accounts for 50% of the fruit production in Bihar. (National share – 11%).

• It is spread over 1,00,000 ha and has an annual production of 1.5 mn metric tons.

• Bihar ranks 4th in the country in mango production.

• Varieties of mango - Maldah, Bombay, Jardalu, Jarda, Safeda, Sepia, Shukul and Gulabkhash.

• Producer districts - Darbhanga, Muzaffarpur, Samastipur, East and West Champaran and Bhagalpur.

• In Bihar, 23 products have been selected under ‘One District One Product’.

• Of these, mango has been given a place in only three districts i.e., Arwal, Madhepura and Bhagalpur (for Jardalu mango).

• Also, Bihar is the 3rd largest maize producer (national share – 9%) in India.

5.Fertilizer Allocation to Bihar

Why in news – For Kharif season, the centre has sanctioned 17 lakh tonnes of fertilizers to the state.

Key Points –

• 140% of the sanctioned fertilizers for Apr and May has reached Bihar.

• Out of 17 lakh tons (LT) – 10 LT Urea, 3 LT DAP, 1 LT SSP, 1 LT MOP, 2 LT NPK.

• Fertilizer consumption increased to 207 kg/ha (2017- 160 kg/ha).

• In 2021, total fertilizer consumption (Kharif + Rabi) was 22.88 LT.

• Top consumer (urea) – Rohtas > Purnea > East Champaran.

6. Owl ID

Why in news – Owl ID has been made to protect owls from smugglers.

Key Points –

• Forest officials would be able to identify 16 types of owls.
