Why in news – Mopa airport has been named as Manohar International Airport.

Key Points –

• The airport was inaugurated by PM Modi in December 2022.

2. Sunni Hydroelectric Project

Why in news – CCEA has approved Sunni Dam Hydro Electric Project in Himachal Pradesh.

Key Points –

• It is a run-of-the-river type scheme situated on river Satluj.

• To set up 382 MW project.

• Project cost - Rs 2,614.51 crore.

3. Eat Right Station

Why in news – Varanasi railway station has been awarded a 5- star ‘Eat Right Station’ certification by FSSAI.

Key Points –

• It is given to railway stations that set benchmarks as per the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006 in providing safe food to passengers.

• FSSAI is an autonomous statutory body established under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006.

4. Largest Women Peacekeepers

Why in news – India would deploy a platoon of women peacekeepers to UN Mission in Sudan.

Key Points –

• This would be India’s largest single unit of women Peacekeepers in a UN Mission.

• India deployed the first-ever all-women contingent in Liberia in 2007.

• As of Oct 31, 2022, India is the second largest contributor to UN peacekeeping missions (5,887 troops) (1st – Bangladesh, 7,017 troops).

• UN peacekeepers are often referred to as Blue Berets or Blue Helmets.

1. Vaccine for Honeybees

Why in news – World’s first vaccine for honeybees gets conditional nod in USA.

Key Points –

• It aims to curb American foulbrood (AFB), a fatal bacterial disease for the insect.

• AFB is caused by the spore-forming bacterium Paenibacillus larvae.

• Infected broods usually die at the pre-pupal or pupal stage.

• The license has been granted to American biotech company Dalan Animal Health Inc.

• The deadly disease originated in the US but has now spread globally.

2. Freedom Caucus Group

Why in news – Due to Freedom Caucus group Republicans in the House of Representatives failed for a second straight day to elect a leader.

Key Points –

About Freedom Caucus –

• It is considered to be the most conservative, far-right caucus of the Republican Party in the US House of Representatives.

• It emerged from the Tea Party Movement, a fiscally conservative political movement (2009).

• Microsoft has signed an MoU with ISRO to fuel space tech startups.

• With the help of Microsoft for Startups Founders Hub, space tech startup founders in India will have free access to the tech tools, and resources they need to build and run their businesses.

BIHAR:

1. Caste-Based Survey

Why in news – The government of Bihar is set to begin the first phase of a caste-based survey in the state on January 7, 2023.

Key Points –

• It is set to conclude on May 31, 2023.

• It would be conducted in two phases –

A. 1st phase - January 7 to January 21, 2023.

B. 2nd phase - April 1 to April 30, 2023.

• Purpose - to create a detailed record of castes and communities in the state in order to aid in their development.

• The decision to conduct a caste-based survey in Bihar was approved by the state cabinet on June 2, 2022.

2. Longest Bridge in India

Why in news – The country's longest bridge would be built on the Gandak river in Bihar's West Champaran.

Key Points –

• The length of the bridge would be 11.24 km (4 lane).

• It would connect Bharpatia (Bettiah, West Champaran) to Sevrahi Padrauna (Uttar Pradesh).

• Currently, the longest bridge is the Bhupen Hazarika Setu in Assam.
