1. Continuous Marine Water Quality Monitoring Station (CMWQMS)

Why in news – Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority (JNPA) and Department of Civil Engineering, IIT Madras developed CMWQMS.

Key Points –

• It also launched an Electric Environmental Monitoring Vehicle (EV).

• It would check water quality data such as temperature, pH, dissolved oxygen, ammonia, conductivity, nitrate, salinity, turbidity, and TDS of marine water.

2. Curbing Fake Reviews

Why in news – Union government unveiled a framework of standards to curb fake reviews on e-commerce websites.

Key Points –

• Framework name - Indian Standard (IS) 19000:2022.

• It has been prepared by the Bureau of Indian Standards and came into effect on Nov 25, 2022.

• The Department of Consumer Affairs constituted a committee to develop a framework on checking fake in e-commerce on June 10, 2022.

3. 10th Indian Film Festival

Why in news – It was held in Busan, South Korea from Nov 18-20, 2022.

Key Points –

• Hindi movie Padmavat was the first to be screened. Total 6 films were screened.

• It was organised by the Swami Vivekananda Cultural Centre, Embassy of India Seoul.

• The film festival is a part of the ongoing annual flagship cultural program of the Embassy of India, Seoul “SARANG– The Festival of India in Republic of Korea”.

1. Anwar Ibrahim

Why in news – Anwar Ibrahim has been sworn in as Malaysia’s new Prime-Minister.

Why in news - Ravi Kumar Sagar was conferred with the award.

2. Tenzing Norgay National Adventure Awards 2021 (TNNAA)

Why in news – M/o Youth Affairs and Sports announced the TNNAA for the year 2021.

• The award is given in four categories namely, Land Adventure, Water Adventure, Air Adventure and Life Time Achievement.

1. 5th Annual Cities Report

Why in news – The report was published by CDP, a non-profit organisation.

Key Points –

• Mumbai became the 1st Indian city to be added to the A-list in the Annual Cities Report.

• CDP’s Cities A-List is based on environmental data disclosed by cities to CDP-ICLEI Track.

• Mumbai has recently released its 1st ever Climate Action Plan in 2022, “Towards a Climate Resilient Mumbai”.

• CDP recognizes the important role that cities play in taking bold actions to mitigate and adopt to climate change.

1. Indo-Pacific Regional Dialogue 2022 (IPRD-2022)

Why in news - The annual apex-level IPRD-2022 is being conducted in New Delhi from Nov 23 to 25 Nov 2022.

Key Points –

• Theme – “Operationalising the Indo-Pacific Oceans Initiative” (IPOI).

• Bhupender Yadav released a book titled “Transitioning from a ‘Brown’ to a ‘Blue’ Economy in the Face of Climate Change”.

• It was organised by the National Maritime Foundation (NMF), New Delhi, as the Indian Navy’s knowledge partner.

ENVIRONMENT:

1. Arittapatti Biodiversity Heritage Site

Why in news - Tamil Nadu to declare Arittapatti in Madurai district, a Biodiversity Heritage Site (BHS).

Key Points –

• It is Tamil Nadu’s first and India’s 35th BHS.

• It houses 3 important raptors namely Laggar Falcon, Shaheen Falcon and Bonelli’s Eagle.

• Wildlife - Indian Pangolin, Slender Loris and Pythons.

• The Anaikondan Lake, built during the reign of Pandiyan kings in the 16th century is located here.

• BHS is declared under section 37(1) of ‘Biological Diversity Act, 2002’.

Why in news - Dr Purnima Devi Barman was awarded with the award in the Entrepreneurial vision category.

• It is UN’s highest environmental honour.

• She is the founder of the Hargila Army (meaning ‘bone swallower’).

• Important birds - Red Crested Pochard (Lalsar), Common Pochard, Tufted, Northern Leapwing etc.

• Gogabeel is an ox-bow lake in Bihar’s Katihar district.

• It was declared state’s first ‘Community Reserve’ on August 2, 2019.

• Gogabeel is formed from the flow of the rivers Mahananda and Kankhar in the north and the Ganga in the south and east.

• It is the 15th Protected Area (PA) in Bihar.

• In 2004, Gogabeel was given the status of an IBA (Important Bird Area of India).
