1. Timor Leste in ASEAN

Why in news - Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) has agreed in principle to admit Timor Leste as its 11th member.

Key Points –

• It formally applied for membership in 2011.

• Timor Leste voted for independence from Indonesia in a 1999 U.N.-supervised referendum.

• It was officially recognized by the United Nations in 2002, making it Asia’s youngest democracy.

2. ‘Global Shield’ Climate Funding

Why in news - Pakistan, Ghana and Bangladesh are among the first recipients of funding from G7 ‘Global Shield’ initiative.

Key Points –

• It is an initiative to provide funding to countries suffering climate disasters.

• It was announced at the COP27 summit in Egypt.

• It was developed in collaboration with the ‘V20’ group of 58 climate vulnerable economies.

Why in news - Natasa Pirc Musar became the first female President of Slovenia.

1. 17th G20 Summit

Why in news – Two-day 17th G20 Summit took place in the city of Bali, Indonesia.

Key Points –

• Theme - “Recover Together, Recover Stronger”.

• G20 president 2022 - Indonesia.

• India would assume the G20 presidency on Dec 1, 2022 from Indonesia, and would convene the G20 Summit for the first time in India in 2023.

About G20 –

• G20 is an intergovernmental forum made up of 19 countries and the European Union.

• It represents over 2/3rd of global population, 85% of global GDP, 80% of global investment, and over 75% of global commerce.

• G20 Troika – Indonesia (current), Italy (previous) and India (incoming) presidencies.

2. Pandemic Fund

Why in news - Pandemic Fund was officially launched on the margins of the G20 Summit in Bali, Indonesia.

Key Points –

• It was established on September 8, 2022.

• It was developed with Indonesia’s and Italy’s leadership during their respective G20 presidencies.

• It has US$1.4 billion in seed funding committed by 24 donors.

1. Cauvery South Wildlife Sanctuary (WLS)

Why in news - Tamil Nadu has notified the Cauvery South WLS as its 17th wildlife sanctuary.

Key Points –

• It was notified under Section 26-A of the Wild Life (Protection) Act, 1972.

• Spread - Reserve forest areas in Krishnagiri and Dharmapuri districts.

• Fauna - Leith’s soft shelled turtles, smooth coated otters, Grizzled giant squirrel, Lesser Fish Eagle, marsh crocodile and four horned antelopes.

1. 3rd “Sea Vigil” Exercise

Why in news - The 3rd edition coastal defence exercise “Sea Vigil-22” held on Nov 15-16, 2022.

• It was undertaken along the entire 7516 km coastline and EEZ of India and involved all the Coastal States and UTs.

• Sea Vigil and TROPEX together will cover the entire spectrum Maritime Security challenges.

1. International Day for Tolerance 2022

Why in news - It is commemorated on Nov 16 every year to raise awareness about the significance of tolerance in society.

Key Points –

• To mark the 125th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, UNESCO created a prize known as UNESCO-Madanjeet Singh Prize in 1995.

• UNESCO adopted the Declaration of Principles on Tolerance on Nov 16, 1995.

• In 1996, the UN General Assembly announced Nov 16 as the International Day for Tolerance.

Why in news – It is celebrated on Nov 15 to honour tribal freedom fighter Birsa Munda.
