1. Content in National Interest

Why in news - Satellite TV channels are required to broadcast at least 30 minutes of content daily on “themes of national importance and of social relevance”.

Key Points –

• It is part of the “Guidelines for Uplinking and Downlinking of Satellite Television Channels in India, 2022” approved by cabinet on Sept 28.

• Guidelines have identified 8 “themes of national importance and of social relevance”.

2. Indian Biological Data Centre (IBDC)

Why in news - India's first national repository for life science data was unveiled by Jitendra Singh.

Key Points –

• It was established at the Regional Centre of Biotechnology, Faridabad, Haryana.

• It has data storage capacity of 4 petabytes.

• A data disaster recovery site has been set up at the National Informatics Centre, Bhubaneshwar.

ENVIRONMENT:

1. Mangrove Alliance for Climate

Why in news - At CoP 27, the Mangrove Alliance for Climate (MAC) was launched on Nov 8, 2022.

Key Points –

• It is an initiative led by the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Indonesia.

• Other members - India, Sri Lanka, Australia, Japan and Spain.

• UAE intends to plant 3 million mangroves in the next 2 months, in keeping with UAE’s COP26 pledge of planting 100 million mangroves by 2030.

• The “State of the World's Mangroves Report” is released by Global Mangrove Alliance.

• India holds around 3% of South Asia’s mangrove population.

1. Kuldip Nayar Patrakarita Samman Award 2022

Why in news - The Gandhi Peace Foundation announced the award to Arfa Khanum Sherwani.

Key Points –

• It is awarded to journalists working in Indian languages contributing to democratic values.

• First awardee (2017) - Ravish Kumar.

1. PM Gati Shakti Multimodal Waterways Summit

Why in news - Sarbananda Sonowal inaugurated the summit at Varanasi on Nov 11, 2022.

• He also laid the foundation stones of community jetties on National Waterways-1 (Ganga) at Ravidas Ghat.

• It was organized by Indian Waterways Authority of India (IWAI), Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways.

• PM Gati Shakti National Master Plan (PMGS-NMP) (launch – Oct 13, 2021) aims to provide multimodal connectivity infrastructure to various economic zones.

1. State of Food and Agriculture Report 2022

Why in news - The 2022 edition of the report was released by Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO).

Key Points –

• It looked at how automation in our agrifood systems can contribute to achieving SDGs.

• Agricultural automation includes anything from tractors to artificial intelligence that make food production more efficient.

• FAO is a specialized agency of the United Nations.
