1. India Water Week (IWW)

Why in news - President Droupadi Murmu inaugurated the 7th edition of IWW (Nov 1 to Nov 5) in Greater Noida, UP.

Key Points –

• Theme - Water Security for Sustainable Development and Equity.

• Denmark, Singapore and Finland are the partner countries for IWW 2022.

• It is being organized by the Ministry of Water Resources, River Development and Ganga Rejuvenation.

• India’s aim – to ensure 100% water availability across India by 2024.

Why in news - PM Modi paid tribute to Bhil freedom fighter Shri Govind Guru in Rajasthan’s Banswara.

1. Shanghai Cooperation Organisation CHG Meeting

Why in news - EAM S Jaishankar represented India at a virtual meeting of the Council of Heads of Government (CHG) of SCO.

Key Points –

• It focuses on the trade and economic agenda and approves its annual budget.

• India’s total trade with SCO Members is only $141 billion.

• The annual SCO summit took place in the Uzbek city of Samarkand in Oct 2022.

2. UN Anti-Terrorism Committee

Why in news - India held a special meeting of the Counter-Terrorism Committee (UNSC-CTC) in New Delhi on Oct 28-29, 2022.

Key Points –

• Aim - to discuss threat posed by drones, terror funding through cryptocurrency and the use of internet by terrorist outfits.

• This is the first such meeting in India since the establishment of the UNSC-CTC in 2001.

1. Coronal Holes

Why in news - A phenomenon called "coronal holes" (smiling sun) was spotted on the sun.

Key Points –

• The image was captured by the NASA Solar Dynamics Observatory.

• These are regions on the sun’s surface from where fast solar wind gushes out into space.

• It can be seen in ultraviolet light but are typically invisible to our eyes.

2. Pathogen Reduction Machine

Why in news - Asia’s first pathogen reduction machine has been launched in KGMU Lucknow.

1. Ranipur Tiger Reserve

Why in news - On Oct 31, 2022, Ranipur TR has become the 53rd tiger reserve in India (4th in UP).

Key Points –

• It is located in Ranipur of Chitrakoot district having an area of 529.36 sq.km.

• Fauna - Tiger, leopard, bear, sambar, spotted deer, chinkara etc.

• It is the 4th tiger reserve in UP after Dudhwa, Pilibhit and Amangarh.

• According to tiger census 2018, 173 tigers are in Uttar Pradesh.

SECURITY:

1. Shyok-Setu

Why in news - Rajnath Singh has inaugurated Shyok-Setu in Leh, Ladakh.

Key Points –

• He also said that henceforth Shyok River shall be called 'River of Life' (earlier called - River of Dead).

• Shyok River is a tributary of the Indus River that flows through Northern Ladakh.

• 120 meters long Shyok Setu has been prepared on Durbuk Shyok-Daulat Beg Oldie road.

2. Garuda VII Air Exercise

Why in news - The Indian and French air forces are undertaking an 18-day military exercise in Jodhpur.

Key Points –

• It began on Oct 26 and would culminate on Nov 12.

• India is hosting it for the fourth time.

1. Global TB Report 2022

Why in news - Recently WHO has released the report for the year 2022.

Key Points –

• It includes data on disease trends from 215 countries and territories.

• Around 6 million people worldwide were diagnosed with tuberculosis in 2021 (4.5% increase from 2020).

• Top 5 TB burden countries - India (24%), Indonesia (13%), the Philippines (10%), Pakistan (6.6%) and Nigeria (6.3%).

• The burden of drug-resistant TB (DR-TB) increased by 3% globally between 2020 and 2021.

• India’s Initiatives to Tackle TB –

A. PM TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyan - to provide additional nutritional support to people on TB treatment.

B. Ni-kshay Mitra Initiative - Promoting citizens to adopt one or more patients.

C. Ni-kshay Poshan Yojana - Cash transfers of Rs 500 every month to TB patients.
