Why in news – The 3rd World Kuchipudi Natyotsavam was organized for 3 days in Vijayawada.

• It is being held from Oct 14 to 16, marking World Kuchipudi Day.

• It also commemorates the 93rd birth anniversary of Kuchipudi dance artist Vempati China Satyam.

INTERNATIONAL:

1. Kamikaze Drone

Why in news – Ukraine’s capital region was struck by Iranian-made kamikaze drones.

Key Points –

• Also called Shahed-136 delta-wing drones.

• The name comes from WWII era’s feared Japanese kamikaze pilots, who conducted suicide attacks by intentionally crashing their explosive filled aircraft into enemy targets.

• Aim - to create an accessible and affordable healthcare system that is in harmony with modern medical practices.

REPORTS & INDICES:

1. Global Multidimensional Poverty Index (MPI) 2022

Why in news – The latest edition of the report was released recently.

Key Points –

• Released by UNDP and Oxford Poverty & Human Development Initiative (OPHI).

• Findings –

• Around 415 million people in India climbed out of poverty between 2005-06 (55%) and 2019-21 (16%).

• Despite reduction, the largest number of poor people in the world — 228.9 million — lived in India in 2020.

• The MPI value fell from 0.283 in 2005-2006 to 0.069 in 2019-2021.

• SGG 1.2 - Reducing at least by half the proportion of men, women and children of all ages living in poverty in all its dimensions according to national definitions by 2030.

• MPI monitors deprivations in 10 indicators.

• MPI was first launched in 2010 by the OPHI and the Human Development Report Office of the UNDP.

Why in news – NATO has started its annual nuclear exercise code-named "Steadfast Noon".
