1. Global Hunger Index 2022

Why in news – The report prepared jointly by Concern Worldwide and Wealth Hunger Hilfe was released.

Key Points –

• India’s rank - 107th (score of 29.1), (2021 - 101st).

• India has been ranked behind all south Asian countries except Afghanistan.

• Sri Lanka (64), Nepal (81), Bangladesh (84) and Pakistan (99).

• 17 countries, including China, Turkey, and Kuwait, shared the top rank with GHI score of less than 5.

• GHI scores are based on 4 indicators –

A. Undernourishment (India - 16.3%)

B. Child stunting (India - 35.5%)

C. Child wasting (India - 19.3%)

D. Child mortality (India - 3.3%).

1. National Conference on Skilling in Non-Traditional Livelihood (NTL) for girls

Why in news – It was organized by Ministry of Women and Child Development (WCD).

Key Points –

• The program is named “Betiyan Bane Kushal”, under Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP).

• It was held on Oct 11, 2022 to mark the International Day of the Girl Child.

• Betiyan Bane Kushal – It focuses on the skill development of girl child with a special focus on non-traditional methods for livelihoods.

• BBBP is a flagship scheme of the M/o WCD, which comes under Mission Shakti.

Why in news - Government would start procurement of paddy from Nov 1 (N. Bihar) and from Nov 15 (S. Bihar).

A. Paddy - 45 lakh metric tonnes.

• There would be an emphasis on buying Parboiled (usna chawal) and fortified rice.
