Why in news – CJI UU Lalit names Justice Dhananjaya Chandrachud as 50th CJI.

2. Mahakaal Lok Project

Why in news – PM Modi inaugurated the 1st phase of the “Shri Mahakal Lok” corridor (900 m) in Ujjain (MP).

Key Points –

• It is among the 12 most revered jyotirlingas.

• Kalidasa’s Meghadutam (4th century) gives a description of the Mahakal temple.

• Mahakal is the only jyotirlinga facing the south (direction of death), while all the other jyotirlingas face east.

• As per the Surya Siddhanta, Ujjain is geographically situated at a spot where the zero meridian of longitude and the Tropic of Cancer intersect.

• In the 13th century, the temple complex was destroyed by Iltutmish.

• The present 5-storeyed structure was built by the Maratha general Ranoji Shinde in 1734.

1. Israel-Lebanon Deal

Why in news – Israel signed a deal with Lebanon to resolve maritime border dispute over Mediterranean waters.
