Why in news - For the first time, the Supreme Court went live on Sept 27, 2022.

Key Points –

• In 2018, the then CJI Dipak Misra, had passed the landmark ruling on Sept 27 on the live telecast for important proceedings.

• High courts that also livestream hearings are - Gujarat, Orissa, Karnataka, Jharkhand, Patna and Madhya Pradesh.

INTERNATIONAL:

1. Shinzo Abe's Funeral

Why in news - PM Modi attended the state funeral of Shinzo Abe in Tokyo.

Key Points –

• Abe was shot dead on July 8 in the city of Nara.

• It was attended by PM Modi, US Vice Prez Kamala Harris and Australian PM Anthony Albanese, among others.

1. Carl-Gustaf M4

Why in news - Swedish defence firm Saab plans to manufacture Carl-Gustaf M4 weapon in India.

Key Points –

• It is a shoulder-fired rocket launcher (maximum range - 1,500 m).

• Production is expected to begin in 2024.

• Carl-Gustaf has been in service with the Indian Army since 1976.

• Present government increased FDI from 49% to 74% and notified 3 lists of 310 weapons that cannot be imported.

ENVIRONMENT:

1. Rhino from Ashes

Why in news - The Kaziranga National Park (AS) has got a memorial made out of the ash of burnt rhino horns.

Key Points –

• It is named “Abode of the Unicorns”.

• It has 3 rhino sculptures (128.56 kg of ash was used) – an adult male, an adult female and a calf.

• Sculpted by Biju Das.

• On World Rhino Day (Sept 22, 2021), a stockpile of 2,479 rhino horns was consigned to flames.

AWARDS & HONOURS:

1. 52nd Dadasaheb Phalke Award 2020

Why in news - Asha Parekh has been selected for the 2020 edition of the award.

Key Points –

• The award would be presented at the 68th National Film Awards ceremony to be held in New Delhi.

• She made her debut in Dil Deke Dekho and has acted in over 95 movies.

• She was awarded the Padma Shri in 1992 and served as the head of Central Board of Film Certification from 1998 to 2001.

• Previous recipients - Rajinikanth, Amitabh Bachchan and Vinod Khanna (posthumously).

2. Queen Elizabeth II Award

Why in news - Suella Braverman has been named the winner of the first Queen Elizabeth II Woman of the Year award.

Key Points –

• She is the current British Home Secretary.

• Suella was elected as the Conservative MP for Fareham in May 2015.

3. Poshak Anaj Award 2022

Why in news - Chhattisgarh was honoured as the best emerging state for the promotion of millets.

Key Points –

• Millets in Chhattisgarh - Kodo, Kutki and Ragi.

• It was organized by IIMR, GoI in Hyderabad on Sept 23, 2022.

1. Integrated Cryogenic Engine Manufacturing Facility (ICMF)

Why in news - A ₹208-crore ICMF has been established in Bengaluru by Hindustan Aeronautics Limited.

Key Points –

• Aim - production of cryogenic (CE20) and semi-cryogenic (SE2000) engines for Indian rockets.

• Production would start by March 2023.

• For this, an MoU was signed between ISRO and HAL in 2013.

Why in news - Faggan Singh Kulaste launched the “JALDOOT App” in New Delhi on Sept 27, 2022.

• App has been jointly developed by M/o of Rural Development and Panchayati Raj.
