1. Opium in Vessels Used in Burial Rituals

Why in news - Opium traces have been discovered in Israel in vessels used in burial rituals.

Key Points –

• It was discovered in a 2012 excavation in Tel Yehud in central Israel.

• In 2020, researchers confirmed the 8th century BC traces of cannabis found on an altar in a 3000-year-old ancient Israelite shrine in the Negev Desert.

2. Military Mobilization

Why in news - Vladimir Putin announced a partial mobilisation in Russia.

Key Points –

• The total number of reservists to be called up is 3,00,000.

• Putin has called for referendums in Luhansk, Kherson and partly Russian-controlled Zaporizhzhia and Donetsk regions.

• It is Moscow's first such move since World War 2.

Why in news - Wipro fired 300 employees for “working for competitors”.

• Their employment had been terminated for an “act of integrity violation”.

• Moonlighting refers to pursuing more than one job at a time and remote working (work from home).

Why in news – The report was recently released by World Health Organisation (WHO).

Key Points –

• In India, 66% (60.46 lakh people) of total deaths were due to non-communicable diseases (NCDs) in 2019.

• There is a 22% probability of death between the age of 30 and 70 due to any type of NCDs.

• NCDs - cardiovascular diseases, cancer, diabetes, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease etc.

Why in news – DG CRPF Kuldeep Singh said that Bihar and Jharkhand can now be said to be free of Maoists.

Key Points –

• CRPF cleared Budhapahad, a forested area in the tri-junction of Latehar and Garhwa districts in Jharkhand and Balrampur in Chhattisgarh of Left-Wing Extremism (LWE).

• CRPF also conducted operations in “extremely inaccessible areas of Chakrabandha and Bhimabandh of Bihar”.

• Operation Double Bull, Operation Thunderstorm and Operation Octopus were conducted by CRPF.

Why in news – Veteran Assamese swimmer Elvis Ali Hazarika became the first from the North East to cross the North Channel.

Key Points –

• It is the strait between north-eastern Northern Ireland and south-western Scotland.

• Elvis and his team clocked a timing of 14 hours 38 minutes to achieve this feat.

• With this, Elvis has become the oldest Indian swimmer to cross the North Channel.

Why in news – Actor-comedian Raju Srivastava died on Sept 21, 2022 at the age of 58 in Delhi.

BIHAR:

1. Mouth Cat Fish

Why in news – Rare “Mouth cat fish” found in Bihar's Harha river.

Key Points –

• It is a carnivorous species of fish due to which many aquatic organisms remain at risk.

• It is mostly found in South Africa and South America.

• It was first sighted in the year 2003-04 during the survey in Ganga rivers.

• Presently, this fish is present in Ganga, Gandak and many other rivers.

2. Bihar Declared Naxal Free

Why in news – DG CRPF Kuldeep Singh said that Bihar has become Naxal-free.

Key Points –

• Bihar has been Naxal-affected for about 32 years.

• Chakrabandha and Bhimabandh areas in Bihar cleared of Naxalites.

• There has been a 77% reduction in Naxalite incidents in 2021(509 incidents) as compared to 2009 (2258 incidents).
