Why in news - Union Information minister Anurag Thakur addressed a gathering at an event of AIBD in New Delhi.

Key Points –

• The Appreciation Award for 2021 was conferred on Radio Television Brunei.

• The Appreciation Award for 2022 was shared by the Ministry of Economy, Civil Service, Communications, Housing and Community Development, Republic of Fiji and Fiji Broadcasting Corporation.

About AIBD (1977) –

• It is a regional inter-governmental organisation servicing countries of UN-ESCAP in the field of electronic media development.

• It is hosted by the government of Malaysia.

2. Oscar Entry Chhello Show

Why in news - Gujarati film Chhello Show (Last Film Show) is India's official entry for Oscars 2023.

Key Points –

• Film's director - Pan Nalin.

• The 95th Oscars will be held on March 12, 2023 at Los Angeles' Dolly Theatre.

• India's Oscar entries for the last few years - Koozhangal, Jallikattu, Gully Boy, Village Rockstars, Newton, Visaranani.

• The Indian films to have been nominated for an Oscar so far have been Mother India, Salaam Bombay and Lagaan.

1. $1.2 Trillion Investment in Climate

Why in news – Norway has setup $1.2 trillion investment fund for 2050 climate target.

Key Points –

• It’s the first time that the $1.2 trillion fund has set a date by which companies if invests in, should be at “net zero”.

• Aim - to limit the warming to no more than 1.5o C or 2.7o F compared with preindustrial levels.

• Scientists calculate that emissions have to reach net zero by 2050.

1. National Mayors’ Conference

Why in news - PM Modi virtually addressed National Mayors’ Conference on Sept 20, 2022 in Gandhinagar.

Key Points –

• PM Modi stressed on creating satellite town to reduce building pressure on cities e.g., Meerut, Noida, Gurgaon, and Ghaziabad around Delhi and Pethapur near Gandhinagar.

• Satellite Town is defined as the urban centre which is functionally integrated with mega city and is located on the major transportation line connecting the city.

2. National Conference on Tourism

Why in news - The “Dharamshala Declaration 2022” was released at the end of the 3-day conference on tourism.

• Dharamshala Declaration –

• Recovery to the pre-pandemic level by 2024

• $250 billion contribution to the GDP by 2030

• Revenue goal of $1 trillion by 2047

• World leader in tourism by 2047

• Most foreign tourist arrivals - Gulf countries, the UK, the US and Germany.

Why in news - Nirmala Sitharaman addressed the 3rd edition of LEADS conference on Sept 20-21, 2022 at New Delhi.

• The event was broadcasted on FICCI’s online platform (FICCI BIKE).

• LEADS (Leadership, Excellence, Adaptability, Diversity, Sustainability).

• It is a global thought leadership initiative of FICCI which was conceptualized in the backdrop of disruptive business environment globally.

ECONOMY:

1. Prompt Corrective Action (PCA)

Why in news - RBI has removed Central Bank of India from its PCA framework.

Key Points –

• PCA norms were imposed on the bank in June 2017 due to its high net NPA and negative return of assets (RoA).

• The PCA norm is imposed when a bank breach certain regulatory threshold on –

A. Capital to risk-weighted assets ratio (CRAR)

B. Net NPAs

C. Return on assets (RoA)

• To date, RBI had placed 11 state-run banks under PCA framework after they breached the risk thresholds.

1. UAE’s Lunar Rover

Why in news - UAE would launch its first lunar rover named “Rashid”.

Key Points –

• It would be launched from the Kennedy Space Centre in Florida in November 2022.

• To be launched from Falcon 9 SpaceX rocket.

• To be deposited on the moon by a Japanese ispace lander.

2. Cloned Wolf “Maya”

Why in news - Scientists in China created world’s first cloned wild Arctic wolf “Maya”.

Key Points –

• It is also known as the white wolf or polar wolf.

• It is native to the High Arctic tundra of Canada’s Queen Elizabeth Islands.

• Maya’s surrogate mother was a beagle, a dog breed.

• World’s first cloned animal was a sheep named Dolly (1996).

1. INS Ajay Retired

Why in news - INS Ajay was decommissioned on Sept 19, 2022 after 32 years of service.

Key Points –

• It is an anti-submarine warfare ship that was commissioned on Jan 24, 1990 in Soviet Union.

• It participated in several naval operations including Operation Talwar during the Kargil War and Operation Parakram in 2001.

1. SAFF Women's Football Championship 2022

Why in news – Bangladesh defeated Nepal by 3-1 in Kathmandu (Nepal) to win the title.

• Government has started modernizing the mandis at a cost of Rs 2700 crores.

2. Research in the field of Gender Equality

Why in news – An MoU was signed on Sept 20, 2022, to facilitate research in the field of gender equality.

• It was signed between Anugrah Narayan Sinha Institute of Social Studies (ANSISS), Patna and United Nation for Population Fund (UNFPA).

• UNFPA India representative Andrea M Wojnar and Secretary (education)-cum-director, ANSISS, Asangba Chuba Ao signed the MoU.

Why in news – The Lahathi of Muzaffarpur would be presented by India to the heads of the nations in G-20 summit in Indonesia.
