1. NITI Aayog at State Level

Why in news - A state-level institution on the lines of NITI Aayog would be established in Maharashtra.

Key Points –

• Aim - to carry out comprehensive data analysis and to make studied decisions for transformation in various sectors.

• Maharashtra is planning to achieve the target one trillion-dollar economy by 2030.

2. Rs 75,000 crore project on Great Nicobar Island

Why in news - Environment ministry approved a project worth Rs. 75,000 crores (US$ 9.40 billion) on Great Nicobar Island.

Key Points –

• It is a 16,610-hectare project and comprise a Greenfield international airport, an international container terminal, a township, and a power plant.

• In 1989, the island was designated as a biosphere reserve, and in 2013, it was included to UNESCO's man and biosphere project.

• Flora and fauna - Nicobar megapode, leatherback turtles, the endemic Nicobar Macaque and saltwater crocodiles.

• It is home to Shompen and Nicobarese tribes.

INTERNATIONAL:

1. Queen Elizabeth II Funeral

Why in news - Queen Elizabeth II was laid to rest at St. George’s Chapel (Westminster Abbey in London) on Sept 19, 2022.

Key Points –

• It was Britain’s first state funeral since former PM Winston Churchill died in 1965.

• St. George’s is the resting place of 10 former British monarchs, the beheaded Charles I.

• President Droupadi Murmu visited London to pay tribute to Queen Elizabeth II.

1. “How India Gives 2020-21”

Why in news - The report, titled “How India Gives 2020-21’’, was released by the Centre for Social Impact and Philanthropy (CSIP), Ashoka University.

Key Points –

• Indians donated Rs 23,700 crore in cash between Oct 2020 and Sept 2021.

• Most donations –

A. Religious organizations (Rs 16,600 crore or 70%)

B. Beggars (Rs 2,900 crore, an or 12%)

C. Family and friends (Rs 2,000 crore or 9%).

1. 9th Session of Governing Body of the ITPGRFA

Why in news - India hosted the 9th Session of Governing Body of the ITPGRFA from Sept 19-24, 2022 in New Delhi.

Key Points –

• Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Narendra Singh Tomar inaugurated the session.

• Theme - Celebrating the Guardians of Crop Diversity: Towards an Inclusive Post-2020 Global Biodiversity Framework.

• ITPGRFA - International Treaty on Plant Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture.

About ITPGRFA –

• It is a legally binding agreement adopted in Nov, 2001 in Rome during the 31st session of FAO.

• It entered into force on June 29, 2004.

• Current Secretary - Mr. Kent Nnadozie.

1. IAF Project Cheetah

Why in news – Indian Air Force to introduce Project Cheetah to weaponize Israeli drones in all defence wings.

Key Points –

• India's Heron drones are to be upgraded and armed with Israel's help.

• Made in Israel, Heron Unmanned Aerial Vehicle is a medium-altitude UAV and can carry up to 250 kg of weight.

1. SCO Tourism and Cultural Capital

Why in news – Varanasi has been nominated as the first-ever SCO Tourist and Cultural Capital for the period 2022-2023.

Key Points –

• The decision was taken at the SCO summit in Samarkand.

• The SCO summit in Samarkand was the first in-person meeting of the grouping since the COVID-19 pandemic.

1. World Bamboo Day 2022

Why in news – It is celebrated every year on Sept 18 to raise awareness about the bamboo industry.

Key Points –

• Theme 2022 - Bamboo for Green Life and Sustainable Development.

• World Bamboo Organization (Hq) - Antwerp (Belgium).

• The National Bamboo mission was launched in 2018-19.

• The Centre had in 2017 amended the Indian Forest Act of 1927 to change the classification of bamboo from tree to grass.

• It is known as a poor man’s timber and green gold.

SPORTS:

1. World Para Athletics Grand Prix

Why in news – Indian javelin thrower Ajit Kumar won the gold by achieving the best throw of 64 m.

Key Points –

• Devendra Jhajharia clinched a silver medal in the event. He threw the javelin to a distance of 60.97 m.

• The event was held in Morocco from September 15-17, 2022.

• Jhajharia won Gold in the 2004 Athens and 2016 Rio editions of the Paralympics. In the 2020 Paralympics in Tokyo, he won a silver medal.

2. Durand Cup 2022

Why in news – Bengaluru FC beat Mumbai city FC 2-1 to win maiden Durand cup title.

Key Points –

• Venue - Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan (Salt Lake Stadium) Kolkata.

• It was 131st edition of Asia's oldest football tournament.

BIHAR:

1. Registry Shuttle Bus Service

Why in news – The service has been started to help people of Bihar register their land-flat documents.

Key Points –

• Vehicle service has been started in all districts except Madhubani to facilitate people to visit the registry office.

• It is being provided by the Prohibition, Excise and Registration Department, Government of Bihar.

• It was first started in Patna and Muzaffarpur.

• Around 200 buses have been pressed into shuttle service.

2. Seminar on E-waste Management

Why in news – One day seminar on e-waste management was held at Shri Arvind Mahila College, Patna.

Key Points –

• It was organized by Dr. SN Jaiswal, Scientific Advisor of Bihar State Pollution Control Board.

• To avoid the solid, liquid and gaseous components of e-waste, 142 E-waste deposit centres have been opened across Bihar.

3. Speed Radar Gun

Why in news – Bihar police is going to install speed radar guns to curb speeding and reduce road accidents.

Key Points –

• It would start by installing it on 5 national highways passing through the state. They are NH 2, NH 28, NH 30, NH 31 and NH 57.

• There are 114 hot spots in 1400 km on these five highways in Bihar.
