1. Annabhau Sathe

Why in news - Maharashtra’s Dy CM Devendra Fadnavis unveiled the statue of Annabhau Sathe in Moscow.

Key Points –

• Annabhau Sathe (org name - Tukaram Bhaurao Sathe) was born in Wategaon village (Satara, MH).

• His ‘Bangalchi Hak’ (Bengal’s Call) on the Bengal famine was presented at London’s Royal Theatre.

• He was also called the Maxim Gorky of Maharashtra as he was immensely inspired by Gorky’s ‘The Mother’ and the Russian revolution.

• His travelogue - Maza Russiacha Pravas (My Travel to Russia).

2. Queen Elizabeth II’s Funeral

Why in news - President Droupadi Murmu would visit London (Sept 17 – 19) to attend the state funeral of Queen Elizabeth II.

Key Points –

• Queen Elizabeth II, 96, passed away on Sept 8, 2022.

• She will be laid to rest at a state funeral at Westminster Abbey on Sept 19, 2022.

3. Four Tribes to ST List

Why in news - Union cabinet approved the addition of 4 tribes to the list of Scheduled Tribes (ST).

B. Narikoravan (TN)

C. Kurivikkaran (TN)

D. Binjhia (CH)

• It also approved a proposal to bring the Gond community ( Dhuria, Nayak, Ojha, Pathari and Rajgond) of UP under the ST list from the SC list.

4. Harappan Culture Museum

Why in news - The world’s largest museum of Harappan culture is coming up in Rakhigarhi in Haryana.

Key Points –

• Rakhigarhi’s archaeological evidences are scattered in two villages — Rakhi Khas and Rakhi Shahpur.

• A cluster of 7 mounds marked as RGR 1 to RGR 7 together forms the largest settlements of the Harappan civilization.

• In 1963, the ASI for the first time started excavation in a village.

• Rakhigarhi artefacts dates back to 5,000-5,500 BC. (Moenjodaro - around 4,000 BC).

1. Forced Labour Products Ban

Why in news – EU has proposed to prohibit products made with forced labour in the EU market.

Key Points –

• Aim - to address China’s alleged abuse of Uyghur labour.

• It covers goods imported from 3rd countries as well as those made within the EU.

• According to International Labour Organization, an estimated 27.6 million people work in forced labour.

ECONOMY:

1. Electronic Bank Guarantee (e-BG)

Why in news – HDFC Bank became the 1st bank in the country to issue an e-BG.

Key Points –

• Partner - National E-Governance Services Limited (NeSL).

• It uses NeSL paperless eStamping DDE platform.

• e-BG has been developed in consultation with NeSL, CVC-CBI committee and IBA.

1. Commercial Satellite Broadband Service

Why in news – HCI and ISRO officially launched India’s first high throughput satellite (HTS) broadband internet service.

Key Points –

• It uses ISRO's Ku-band capacity of GSAT-11 and GSAT-29 satellites.

• HCI is currently operating in B2B segment.

• HCI - Hughes Communications India.

1. International Day of Democracy 2022

Why in news It is celebrated on Sept 15 annually to strengthen democracies around the world.

Key Points –

• Theme - Importance of media freedom to democracy, peace, and delivering on the Sustainable Development Goals.

• It was established after a UNGA resolution in 2007.

2. National Engineer’s Day 2022

Why in news – Every year India celebrates National Engineer’s day on September 15 to honour the achievements of M Visvesvaraya.

Key Points –

• He patented and installed an irrigation system at the Khadakvasla reservoir near Pune known as ‘block system’ in 1903.

• He was also called the “precursor of economic planning in India”.

• His books - Reconstructing India (1920) and Planned Economy of India (1934).

• He was awarded knight in 1915 while serving as the Diwan of Mysore, and received Bharat Ratna in 1955.

• Along with India, the day is also celebrated in Sri Lanka and Tanzania as Engineer’s day.

Why in news – A multinational naval exercise, Kakadu, is being hosted by the Royal Australian Navy in Darwin.
