1. Two Indian Peacekeepers Killed

Why in news - Two BSF men part of UN Peacekeeping mission in the Democratic Republic of Congo killed.

Key Points –

• Both were part of MONUSCO – the United Nations Organization Stabilization Mission in strife-torn Democratic Republic Congo.

• Incident took place in Congo’s eastern city of Goma.

2. 820GW Power Generation Capacity

Why in news - Union Power minister R.K. Singh said the country’s electricity generation capacity would reach 820GW by 2030.

Key Points –

• Out of 820 GW, 500 GW would come from non-fossil fuel sources.

• PM Narendra Modi had announced India’s aim to attain 500 GW non-fossil fuel capacity and 50% of its energy requirements from renewables by 2030 at COP26 in 2021.

• The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI) has released a roadmap charting the feasible pathways to achieving the ambitious decarbonization targets.

INTERNATIONAL:

1. $1-trillion Skyscraper

Why in news - Saudi Arabia plans to build the world’s largest structure made of mirrored glass cost a $1 trillion.

Key Points –

• It will reach up to 1,600 feet in height and run parallel for 75 miles.

• Project name – “Mirror Line”.

• It is designed by the U.S.-based Morphosis Architects.

• Location - Neom city (the brainchild of Mohammed bin Salman).

• Neom will be a zero-carbon city in a 170-km line.

2. Monkeypox Vaccine IMVANEX

Why in news - The European Commission (EC) approved Imvanex vaccine for use against monkeypox in the EU.

Key Points –

• Imvanex have also been granted approval for the prevention of monkeypox in the United States and Canada.

• It was approved by the EC in 2013 for immunization against smallpox.

ECONOMY:

1. DGCA Reduced SpiceJet Flights by Half

Why in news - Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) ordered SpiceJet to operate only 50% of its flights for the next 8 weeks.

Key Points –

• SpiceJet suffered a series of incidents including smoke in the cabin, fuselage door warnings and cabin depressurization.

2. IMF Cuts Growth Forecast

Why in news - International Monetary Fund (IMF) released its latest World Economic Outlook (WEO) report.

Key Points –

• IMF has slashed India’s growth forecast for 2022-23 by 0.8% to 7.4%. (earlier - 8.2%).

• It has cut global growth to 3.2% (2022) and 2.9% (2023).

1. Quick Reaction Fighting Vehicle (QRFV)

Why in news - Tata Advanced Systems Limited has successfully delivered the indigenously developed QRFV to the Indian Army.

Key Points –

• This “fire & fury” vehicle has been developed by Tata Advanced Systems.

• In June 2022, Tata and L&T together jointly delivered the 100th missile launcher for the IAF's Akash project.

1. National Family Planning Summit 2022

Why in news - The summit held on July 27, 2022 at New Delhi.

Key Points –

• Union Minister Dr. Bharati Pravin Pawar chaired the Summit.

• Theme - “Sustaining efforts, Steering Partnerships, Shaping Vision in Family Planning – Sabka Saath, Sabka Vishwas, Sabka Prayas & Sabka Vikas”.

• As per NFHS 5 –

A. 31 states/ UTs have achieved a Total Fertility Rate (TFR) of 2.1 or less.

B. Contraceptive usage has increased to 56.5%.

• Mission Parivar Vikas (MPV) 2016 - Awareness of Family planning, healthy birth spacing and the importance of small families.

• She also unveiled the India Family Planning 2030 vision document.

• India was the first country to launch a National Family Planning program in 1952.

1. Google “Street View”

Why in news - Google has launched its “Street View” feature for 10 Indian cities with data from local partners.

Key Points –

• Local partners - Tech Mahindra and Genesis International.

• Project name – Gullify.

• 10 cities - Bengaluru, Chennai, Delhi, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Pune, Nashik, Vadodara, Ahmednagar and Amritsar.

• It will allow users to view panoramic and street - level 360 views of a particular place.

IMPORTANT DAYS:

1. International Day for Conservation of Mangrove Ecosystem 2022

Why in news – It is observed every year on July 26.

Key Points –

• UNESCO adopted the day in 2015.

• India has a total mangrove cover of around 4,482 sq km which is 3 % of the world’s mangrove area.

• Mangroves in India – Sundarbans (largest, WB), Bhitarkanika (OD), Godavari-Krishna delta (AP), Pichavaram & Vedaranyam (TN), Gulf of Kutch & the Kori creek (GJ).

• Other states/UTs – KL, KA, Goa, MH and A&N islands.

2. World Hepatitis Day 2022

Why in news – It is observed each year on July 28 to raise awareness of viral hepatitis.

1. Commonwealth Games (CWG) 2022

Why in news - Shuttler PV Sindhu (Previous choice - Neeraj Chopra) will be the team India Flagbearer at the CWG 2022 opening ceremony in Birmingham.

Key Points –

• A total of 215 athletes will represent India in 15 disciplines at the CWG 2022.

• Highest representation - Haryana (39 athletes), Punjab (26) and Tamil Nadu (17).

• CWG mascot - Perry the Bull.

2. 69th Senior National Kabaddi Championship

Why in news - Indian Railways won the championship by defeating Maharashtra 38-21 in the final.

3. Swiss Open 2022

Why in news - Norway’s Casper Ruud has won the Swiss Open Tennis Tournament 2022.

BIHAR:

1. State Level Bankers’ Committee (SLBC) Meeting

Why in news – The 81st SLBC meeting held in Patna on July 27, 2022.

Key Points –

• Banks in Bihar have achieved 99.59% of their annual credit plan (ACP) for the last fiscal 2021-22.

• The ACP for 2021-22 was ₹1,61,500 crore, against which the credit disbursement was ₹1,60,837 crore.

• ACP target for 2022-23 – Rs 2,04,145 crores. (MSMEs share – Rs 70,000 crores)

• Credit Deposit (CD) ratio rose to 52.96%. (national average – 75%).

• NPA – 11.30% (March 2022).

2. Bissaua Zamindari Dam

Why in news – The scheme of widening and strengthening of Bissaua zamindari dam has been approved.

Key Points –

• The dam is located at the confluence of rivers Ganga and Baya in the Begusarai district.

• The width of the top of the dam between km 11.925 to km 12.150 (i.e., 225m) will be increased from 3 m to 6 m.

• Country side slope will be increased from 1:1 to 3:1.

3. Power Situation in Bihar

Why in news – Art and Culture minister Alok Ranjan said that Bihar has achieved a historical feat in power generation.

Key Points –

• Number of power stations – 1200 (in 2022), 300 (in 2004-05).

• Electricity consumers – 179.65 lakh (in 2022), 38 lakhs (in 2012).

• Under “Saat Nischay - 2”, the government aims to provide irrigation to every field by 2025.
