1. India-China Border Talks

Why in news - The 16th round of India-China corps commander-level talks took place at the Chushul-Moldo border meeting point in Eastern Ladakh.

Key Points –

• Indian delegation was led by Lt Gen. A. Sengupta, Commander of the 14 Corps.

• Friction points - Hot Springs area (PP15), Demchok, Depsang Plains and Charding Nilung Nullah.

• India and China have five Border Personnel Meetings (BPM) points –

A. Daulat Beg Oldie in northern Ladakh

B. Kibithu in Arunachal Pradesh

C. Chusul in Ladakh

D. Bum-La near Tawang in Arunachal Pradesh.

E. Nathu-La in Sikkim.

2. Presidential Election

Why in news - Polling for the election of the president concluded on July 18 at 30 polling stations across state Assemblies and in room number 63 of the Parliament.

Key Points –

• It registered a voter turnout of 99.12%.

• The NDA’s Droupadi Murmu was supported by 44 and the Opposition’s Yashwant Sinha was supported by 34 political parties officially.

• 100% voting by MLAs was reported from Chhattisgarh, Goa, Gujarat, Himachal Pradesh, Kerala, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Manipur, Mizoram, Puducherry, Sikkim and Tamil Nadu.

• The value of an MP’s vote has gone down to 700 from 708 in the absence of an Assembly in Jammu and Kashmir.

• The counting of votes would be done on July 21.

• New President would take oath on July 25, 2022.

3. Bharat Rang Mahotsav 2022

Why in news - The 22nd edition of the Bharat Rang Mahotsav is being held from July 16, 2022 to August 14, 2022 in New Delhi. It was inaugurated by Arjun Ram Meghwal.

1. National Emergency due to Heatwaves

Why in news - Britain declares national emergency as record-breaking heat wave sweeps over Europe.

Key Points –

• Temperatures rose to mid-40 degrees Celsius with wildfires raging across Portugal, Spain, France and Croatia.

2. Marburg Virus

Why in news - Ghana confirms its first outbreak of Marburg virus.

Key Points –

• This is only the second outbreak of Marburg in West Africa. (First – Guinea, 2021).

About Marburg Virus –

• Like Ebola, Marburg is a filovirus.

• Rousettus fruit bats are considered the natural hosts for the Marburg virus.

• African green monkeys were the source of the first human infection.

• It was first detected in 1967.

• There is no approved antiviral treatment or vaccine for Marburg virus disease (MVD) as of now.

1. Surgical Robotic System

Why in news - Rajiv Gandhi Cancer Institute and Research Centre (RGCI), New Delhi has installed a “made in India surgical robotic system”.
